Winter Anime Day at Kinokuniya
While NYAF is far, far away, we're working with Kinokuniya and a number of friends to hold parties and other events all year round, and our next event is this Saturday in NYC! From 1 PM to 6 PM at 1073 Ave of the Americas, the Winter Anime Day is a safe space to cosplay away from the cold, and it'll feature guests including Veronica Taylor, Reni-Chan, and Misako Rocks! (Note that "awesome prizes" means things we steal from Peter's office.)

Anime Matsuri joins with the Yume Cosplay Prize
Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever make it to Japan. It seems so far away and so out of reach. Do you feel this way, too? Well, NYAF wants to do something about it, hosting its second annual Yume Cosplay Masquerade this year at the show, October 8-10. The grand prize? A trip to Tokyo and tickets to the Tokyo Anime Fair. And to open the contest to fans around the USA, we're partying with various regional cons, and we're proud to announce Texas's Anime Matsuri in April is the lastest con to sign on. Winners of the Anime Matsuri Yume Cosplay Prize Regionals will win a trip to NYC to compete at NYAF for a trip to Japan! Yatta!

A Busy Weekend for Anime Fans!

Kinokuniya and Forbidden Planet Hosting Holiday Parties

This is NYAF Show Manager Lance Fensterman with your weekly update about anime events in New York City. And this week we've got two big events that'll keep anime fans warm amid the winds, slush, and bitter cold of the New York City winter. Our friends at Kinokuniya and Forbidden Planet are each hosting special holiday parties for otaku this weekend!

Kinokuniya's J-Pop Christmas  

Kinokuniya is giving away a free trip to Japan on December 19th as part of the Kinokuniya and Samurai Beat Radio J-Pop Christmas. Beginning at 1 PM, Samurai Beat Radio will be playing a selection of the top-rated J-Pop songs as picked by Tokyo FM. Fans will be able to vote for their favorites, with their picks to be broadcast on samuraibeatradio.com. And, as I just said, the J-Pop Christmas will come to a close with the drawing of the free trip to Tokyo 

Forbidden Planet's AniFusion

Hosted by cosplay performance artist Mario Bueno and otaku stand-up comedian Uncle Yo -- with guests including Patrick W. Galbraith, author of "The Otaku Encyclopedia", and musical performers Emi and Promise -- Forbidden Planet's AniFusion will take place at bar and lounge Forbidden City on December 20th. The whole day wraps up with a cosplay competition, with the first place winner taking home a $75 Forbidden Planet gift card.

Our friends at Kinokuniya host a number of anime-themed events, including a J-Pop Holiday Party coming up on December 19th.  Perhaps the good guys at Forbidden Planet took notice, as Forbidden Planet is hosting a special anime event of their own on December 20th.  Titled "AniFusion NYC", it's being held from 2-5 PM at Forbidden City (212 Avenue A, New York, NY 1009, between 13th and 14th), just a few blocks from the Forbidden Planet store.

AniFusion NYC will be hosted by cosplay performance artist Mario Bueno and otaku stand-up comedian Uncle Yo.  Guests include Patrick W. Galbraith, author of “The Otaku Encyclopedia”, and musical performers Emi and Promise.

What's on tap for NYC's otaku?

From now until December 19th, Kinokuniya Bookstore and American Airlines are raffling off one trip from anywhere in the continental USA to Tokyo. How do you enter? The winner will be revealed at 5 PM on the 19th as part of the Kinokuniya and Samurai Beat Radio "J-Pop Christmas."
